WEP Encryption - the king is dead.
WEP stands for the Wired Equivalent Privacy algorithm deployed originally in most home wireless routers. WEP was introduced in 1997 and became the de-facto standard for most wireless deployments.
WEP is considered a deprecated encryption algorithm now because of the massive security holes that have been found in it. It uses an RC4 encryption algorithm.
It is now possible to crack a WEP Encrypted Wireless Connection in under 5 minutes with a regular network card and software downloadable from the internet.
But despite this weakness, it's place in the world of wireless routers continues. With recent surveys finding as many as 40-50% of Wireless Router users still using WEP on their networks.
